“Shree Sharada Pooja Samithi” Urwastore Mangalore, is a registered Organization, which was started in the year 1973 which is been rendering Social, religious and welfare activities in the society. As we believe that Faith, Devotion and rituals are the important features of Dharma, our organization has been performing these rituals since ages.
In the year 1973 during Navaratri, a group of young, enthusiastic and devoted voluntaries from Urvastore, government colony emerged with the unique conception of celebrating Navaratri. To start up with, they worshiped the photo of goddess & thereby celebrated Navaratri. Following year, a group had emerged by named “Government Quarters Recreation club’ and started worshiping Goddess of knowledge, Sharada Amma’s Idol for two days with great faith and devotion. People from the Society, supported these devoted voluntaries by rendering donation and participated in various activities which brought up the celebration with great success.
In the year 1978, people felt the need of celebrating duserra as an annual event at Urwastore, for which a place had to be identified & with a strong group to be emerged to take it forward and thereby the place and organization by named “Shree Sharada Pooja Samithi” Urwastore came into existence. From then onwards, devotion increased, as the number of volunteers increased and actively participated not only in religious activities, but also in various social events.
Urwastore being a residential hub, is a well-known place in Dakshina Kannada and Sharada Pooja Mahotsava is one of the important events celebrated since 43 years at Urwastore.
Navaratri Celebration at the Samithi starts on Moola Nakshtra day, as the Prathista takes place of Godess Sharada and will be worshipped until the fourth day. First day, Prathishtapane Pooja is performed which will be followed by Chandika Yaaga and Lunch for all the devotees in the afternoon. Evening would be the stage programs and cultural activities, followed by Maha Arathi, Vishesha Ranga Pooja.
Second day starts with the Arthi, Bhajans, and devotional rituals and the day ends with Maha Arathi and cultural program by the students of Sharada Vidya Peeta.
Aksharabhyasam is a Hindu ritual for initiating children into education and into the world of alphabets, Aksharabhyasam is performed on the third day. Bhajans from various groups, cultural program, Ranga Pooja and Maha Arathi ends up the 3rd day of celebration.
Fourth day, Visarjan Pooja is performed in the evening, after which various groups and clubs participating in the procession perform their art and thereby the procession heads towards Visarjan and thereby the celebration of Navaratri ends up at Urwastore.
